They Hoisted Their Colors to the Top of the Mast

They came, they hoisted, they conquered!

HOIST THE COLORS and their scurvy crew braved the perils of sea travel and sailed down to Long Beach from their El Segundo hideaway to grace us with much singing, much dancing, and much merry-making this past Thursday. As promised by scenemates THE MIGHTY REGIS when they were here last month, we loved ‘em!

They really did come in force — including the police force! Yep, a few of the local constables stopped by not because there was any trouble, but because they “were passing by and heard good music, so figured [they'd] check out the band!”

No reports yet on what sort of whiskey/whisky they favored. Just kidding! Probably.

I do believe this was the most well-attended Muirshin Durkin yet, thanks in no small part to HOIST THE COLORS having a very supportive fan base. As awesome as they are, it comes as no surprise. These lads have a bright future ahead — and if you’re in Long Beach on Saturday, December 27th (just two days after Christmas), you should check ‘em out at the Auld Dubliner. I know I’ll be there!

Unfortunately, no one I know brought a camera (my own fault — I need to start carrying one of the several that are available to me); I did beseech a couple of people I saw to please send some my way for the site, so if you’re one of ‘em, please drop me a line at celtcore@gmail.com! Pretty please?

Up next month (per the flyer you see above), THE DIRGES will be playing. Set your calendars for Thursday, January 8th, 2009 and prepare for another evening of awesomeness. I dare you! As always, it’ll be at Clancy’s in Long Beach (803 E. Broadway), and there’ll be no cover — which always leaves you with plenty of money to drop on $3.75 Guinness (or Harp if that’s how you roll) all night. I’m sure there will be a whiskey (or maybe whisky?) special of some kind, too.

Happy rest of the old year, everyone! And no matter how good or bad 2008 has been for you, may 2009 be (even) better.
